A Prickly Poet: Ode to the Hedgehog

A tiny tank, a spiky ball, He rolls along, defying fall. The hedgehog huffs, a snuffling sound, Across the lawn, he's homeward bound.

A Nocturnal Nomad:

Beneath the cloak of moonlit night, He seeks his supper, pure delight. A juicy slug, a beetle bright, Fueling his journey through the night.

The Hedge's Humble Home:

He builds his nest, a cozy den, Of leaves and twigs, safe from the men. (And foxes too, with hungry eyes, Who stalk the dark with sly disguise).

A Master of Camouflage:

His spines, a shield, a natural art, Protecting him, a work of heart. He blends with leaves, a earthy hue, A master of disguise, it's true.

More Than Just Spines:

But don't mistake him for a threat, This little fellow, unforget. He's gentle soul, with curious gaze, He'll charm you with his quiet ways.

A Symbol of Resilience:

A tiny warrior, small and bold, His story's worth more than its gold. He faces dangers, night by night, Yet perseveres with all his might.

So next you see him, small and round, Upon the grass, or on the ground. Remember well this prickly friend, Whose quiet life, we must defend.
